Buttock (Hip) Aesthetics
What Is a Buttock Augmentation Surgery?
Buttock augmentation, also known as “butt enhancement surgery,” is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to improve the size, shape, and contours of the buttocks. Butt implants, fat injection, or a combination of both techniques are used to increase the fullness of the buttocks and enhance body contours through buttock augmentation surgeries. Buttock augmentation procedures can also be performed simultaneously with butt lift surgeries. The scope of the operation is determined based on the patient’s needs, surgeon recommendations, and patient preferences.
What Is a Butt Lift Surgery?
Butt lift surgery, performed to eliminate sagging in the buttocks caused by aging, pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or genetic factors, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that helps achieve more shapely and lifted buttocks. In order to create a more prominent and lifted appearance, excess skin and fat in the area are removed through a butt lift surgery. Butt lift surgeries alone cannot increase the size of the buttocks. Therefore, some women may opt to undergo both butt lift and butt augmentation procedures in a single session.
Buttock aesthetics surgeries, which carry risks such as bleeding, localized numbness, infection, anesthesia risks, pain, asymmetry, and scarring, should be performed by experienced plastic surgeons.
How Are Buttock Augmentation Surgeries Performed?
Buttock augmentation surgeries are performed using implants or fat transfer. Both techniques can be combined depending on the patient’s needs. When determining the surgical technique, factors such as the size and structure of the buttocks, patient expectations, skin elasticity, amount of excess skin, and fat ratio in the buttocks are taken into consideration.
If butt implants are to be used in a butt augmentation surgery, the procedure is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made at the upper part of the buttocks, in the crease between the buttocks, or on the side of the buttocks. Specially designed silicone implants for buttock aesthetics are placed under the muscles. The placement and positioning of the implants vary depending on the type of implant, the desired size of augmentation, and the body structure. After the procedure is completed, the incision is closed.
If the fat injection method, also known as the “Brazilian Butt Lift,” is to be used in a butt augmentation surgery, fat is first harvested from a designated area of the body via liposuction. The collected fat is then processed and injected into the buttock area.
When fat injection is used in buttock augmentation surgeries, the final results become noticeable approximately one year later. With implants, the change is noticeable soon after the surgery.
How Are Butt Lift Surgeries Performed?
Butt lift surgeries may require extensive incisions. The length and shape of the incisions vary depending on the amount of skin and fat to be removed from the buttocks. The incision sites are chosen in areas that are not visible under underwear or swimwear such as bikinis.
During butt lift surgeries, incisions are usually made just below the waistline. The liposuction technique can be used to contour the buttocks. Alternatively, incisions may be made under the buttocks; after removing excess fat and tissue, the remaining tissues are tightened. Leg and thigh lift procedures can also be added to butt lift surgeries, allowing the patient to have lifted, shaped, and more defined buttocks from the side view.
Buttock aesthetic surgeries take approximately 2 hours. After the operation, the patient should lie face down for a few days and avoid putting pressure on the buttocks as much as possible. After about 10–15 days, the patient can slowly return to daily life. Once full recovery is achieved, women can have prominent, ideally sized, and lifted buttocks.
